STAR-GEN-01

‘For centuries we’ve looked to the stars for guidance, for signs, for something beyond ourselves. We’ve cast unseen messages deep into the cosmos in the hope of connection.
This piece is an ode to the star, based on the ancient act of ‘wishing upon a star’ – the awe we experience, and the unexplained connection we feel.

For the work, I’ve reimagined the star as a celestial body through a contemporary lens. To reflect a glimmering jewelled and intricately detailed form that represents a vast and commanding presence, while offering a quiet solace to the soul. A receiver of messages cast into the dark… answered by a sparkle in return.

Created using French ink on paper, this painting embodies the visual qualities of metallics, chromes and crystals. Not a star as science defines, but symbolic of something more mysterious and otherworldly, and as visually beautiful as we imagine stars to be.

This is the first star in an ongoing series.
